Front-End Engineer – AWS WAF at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

FULLTIME role requiring ‘No experience data provided’
months of experience in Seattle

Description

We make it easy for customers to help protect their web applications from attacks by allowing them to configure rules that allow, block, or monitor (count) web requests based on conditions that they define. We also generate detection logic that helps automatically protect customers from bad actors and automated traffic to their applications. By supporting associations with CloudFront, Application Load Balancer, and API Gateway customers can protect their applications and resources whether all in on the cloud, maintaining on premise data centers, or using a hybrid cloud approach.

We build a highly available, low latency distributed system that allows customers to propagate changes worldwide in minutes to respond to active attacks in real-time. We’re fully integrated with several others AWS Services to give customers the insight and control they need. We give customers the visibility they need to see which requests were blocked, allowed, or counted and what rule was matched on a given request. Customers can store their full WAF logs for compliance and auditing as well as use them for debugging and additional forensics. Using CloudFormation customers can automate the deployment of their WAF on the AWS cloud.

You will play a lead role on the team and influence how we design, develop, build, deploy and support AWS WAF Console. To be successful in the role, you must be able to research, innovate and create unique solutions. There is no precedent to follow in this problem space. You will be involved from inception to deployment and beyond. You’ll interact with our customers, gathering requirements, designing, implementing, testing and supporting the product operationally; soup to nuts. You will be expected to use your technical background and have a significant impact on the direction of AWS WAF customer experience as well as new services and features that we develop in the future.

We own the direct customer experience as well as the per request processing of rules for CloudFront, API Gateway, and ALB. Not only do we build an AWS security service, but we’re a customer of AWS using other AWS services to provide the solutions to our customers that scale and seamlessly integrate with their existing workflows. Engineers on our team get to solve some of the hardest computer science problems including building highly available distributed micro-services, global scaling across both AWS Regions and CloudFront edge locations, and processing millions of requests with single digit millisecond latency.

Basic Qualifications
• 4+ years of professional front end development around the user experience.
• Experience with responsive web design.
• Experience in developing rich applications with HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Experience developing web services using any of the following: Python, Java, Node.js, Ruby, Go, .NET or Scala

• Experience with view layout and rendering technologies (e.g., responsiveness, progressive enhancement, browser/device support).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent professional experience or military experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Strong knowledge of front-end frameworks like React, Angular, and Bootstrap
• Familiarity with object-oriented design and RESTful web services
• Proficiency in at least one back-end programming language, e.g. Java, Ruby, Python, PHP, C#, or Node.js.
• Experience using JavaScript transpilers and build tools
• Experience instrumenting applications with real user metrics to reflect the customer experience
• Willingness to mentor junior engineers
• Experience architecting large-scale multi-tier web application.
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.

Front End Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

FULLTIME role requiring ‘No experience data provided’
months of experience in Seattle

Description

Ever wonder what it would be like to work for one of Amazon’s disruptive businesses? Do you thrive in an environment where you have to be innovative and where your work moves the needle for the business. AWS Marketplace (http://aws.amazon.com/marketplace) is looking for people like you! We are building what can best be described as an “Appstore for the cloud” – allowing software vendors to sell their cloud-deployable products on AWS infrastructure, and allowing customers of all sizes from around the globe to find the right products to run their business. Customers don’t need to worrying about datacenters, hardware, or cumbersome software installation processes. We’re only just getting started. And we need your help!

We are looking for strong front-end engineers who are results-oriented, data driven, innovative and passionate at creating new comprehensive customer engagement services/solutions. You’ll work on cutting edge technology such as React, Redux, Webpack, ES6+, and AWS to build the world’s most innovative customer experience solutions.

As a Front-end Engineer on this team, you will collaborate with other engineers to drive improvements to our technology, design and develop new customer facing products with tracking metrics to ensure high quality results. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building a software system that can be operated at global scale. At Amazon, we are known for our customer obsession. We need your ideas and your ability to take initiative, innovate, and produce results as we continuously improve the customer experience.

Inclusive Team Culture

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. Work/Life Balance

Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work. This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews.
